Still Life: International Prometheus Poster is Actually the Least Impressive Thing We’ve Seen So Far

May 18, 2012

HOME, NEWS

International poster for Prometheus, with a number of people in spacesuits and Space Jockey ship exploding aboveHmm.. It’s just.. Not as inspired as any of the other marketing and kinda makes it look like a generic space disaster. It’s also dangerously close to bad photoshop territory, Charlize Theron for instance doesn’t really look like she’s in a hurry to get anywhere at all. The color palate is very nice though, just to say something positive.

The interesting thing, though, is that what it depicts, the Space Jokey Ship crashing into LV-246 (supposedly), should by all accounts be a huge plot spoiler. So we have two possibilities: 1) They’re desperately trying to lure people in with the promise of big explosions, to counteract the R-rating box office drop, or 2) Things will take some sort of huge turn that makes this seem like a Sunday morning stroll in the park.

With rumors going around, take this with a copious amount of salt, that At The Mountains of Madness will never be made in part due to Prometheus striking similar thematic chords and having a twist ending, we’re leaning towards the latter. Or at least hoping for it.

Prometheus opens on June 1st in the UK, June 6th Internationally and June 8th in the US.

I’m unimpressed by the spoiler. I didn’t see the ship exploding in any of the trailers; if it’s a plot point, I wouldn’t have known about it when seeing the film if it weren’t for this poster. In a day and age when marketing already spoils too much, this just makes me disappointed.
