We promised it and here it is, the teaser for Skyfall. Oh my, what a tease it is. Complete with a slow, violin version of the Bond theme that morphs into an electronica tinged one, it’s all but safe to assure you that Bond is back and he’s better than ever. Take a look and then read on for some thoughts.

Skyfall is obviously a huge deal as we see in the word association test (interrogation?). The shots of the coffins with the Union Jack draped over them might imply that there’s some sort of spy killing plot at work, or perhaps it’s as simple as Bond puts it: There are some men coming to kill them, but they’re going to kill them first. Always to the point, Daniel Craig‘s Bond. Otherwise it’s a hugely impressive look at the film. Roger Deakins‘ striking cinematography instantly stands out and everything looks fantastic. We catch glimpses of the new characters; Ralph Fiennes is there for the MI6 test/interrogation which places him as an associate/assistant to M or even a future heir to the throne. Naomie Harris shows up for a couple of seconds to shave Bond’s beard – that’s not a euphemism. There’s a possible extreme long shot at Bérénice Marlohe, but we can’t be sure. Finally, we have the ominous, dark silhouette of big baddy: Javier Bardem. He just burned a mansion down and looks set to make life difficult for our favorite, suave spy.
Oh, and I think that the Inception-esque ‘duhn-s’ are well done here and therefore work really well. See, it’s all about doing things well. Also, I can barely stress how gorgeous the cinematography looks. All in all, excitement levels are high.
Skyfall, directed by Sam Mendes and written by John Logan, Neal Purvis & Robert Wade, comes out October 26th in Europe and November 9th in the United States.
